Flower bulb grower Van Steijn-Damen, based in the Rijnland region of the Netherlands, has won first prize in the International Business category at the De Sterkste Schakel Rijnland 2026 awards. The ceremony was held at Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin. De Sterkste Schakel is a regional business award recognising companies that distinguish themselves through customer focus. Prizes are awarded annually across several sectors, including international trade.

According to the jury, Van Steijn-Damen stands out for its flexibility and customer-oriented approach. The company supplies both large and smaller volumes and responds to specific customer requirements in areas such as branding, labelling, and product specifications. Its products reach a diverse range of customers in the Netherlands and abroad, including garden centres, DIY retailers, and florists.

The jury also highlighted the company’s stable workforce. Many employees return season after season, which the jury viewed as a sign of a positive working environment. Attention to working conditions on the shop floor was noted as well.

Van Steijn-Damen is a family business now in its third generation. Younger family members are actively involved in product development and innovation. Several years ago, the company expanded its range with a hardy perennials line alongside its flower bulbs, a strategic decision that has broadened its market reach and enabled year-round activity.

This combination of craftsmanship, flexibility, and market awareness convinced the jury to award Van Steijn-Damen first place in the International Business category.
