Banana industry participants climb the World Cup Pool rankings

A weekend packed with exciting World Cup matches has produced a new leader in FreshPublishers’ World Cup Pool. Guido de Bruijn from Agrofair is now in first place with his team, ‘xavilolo’. Luigi Giacomello and Rob Welles have each moved up one spot to second and third place, respectively. Marcos Miedema has entered the top 10 in fourth place. Like the current leader, he works at Agrofair, a grower and importer of organic and Fairtrade bananas.

Mark Libregts (JNV Produce) is in fifth place, followed by Andre Filippov of the German company Global Fruit Point in sixth and Dirk van den Hurk of aaff in seventh. Cindy van Rijswick (Rabobank) led the standings for several days but has now slipped to eighth place, ahead of Spain’s Jose Luis Perez Lopez and Ingrid Lopez of One Bananas in Guatemala. In the country rankings, participants from Guatemala continue to hold the top position on average.

Will these participants continue their winning streak, or are there still surprises ahead? There are plenty of proverbial banana skins left to slip on. We’ll know more tomorrow!
