As environmental regulations become stricter and growers continue to look for ways to reduce chemical use, cleaning methods in horticulture are also evolving. Belgian manufacturer Terrazza MC has seen growing interest in mechanical cleaning solutions that require little water and no chemical products.
The company’s portfolio includes the Geotex PRO®, developed for cleaning geotextile surfaces in nurseries and greenhouses, and the recently introduced Greeny PRO®, designed for nursery tables. According to Dany Mestdag, CEO of Terrazza MC, the shift is being driven by the industry’s changing priorities. “Growers are increasingly looking for solutions that are both practical and sustainable,” he says. “Cleaning is no longer just about appearance. It has become part of a broader strategy that includes hygiene, labour efficiency and reducing environmental impact.”

The Geotex PRO uses patented brush technology to remove algae, moss and organic debris from geotextile surfaces without relying on high-pressure cleaning or chemical treatments. Besides reducing water consumption, the approach also limits the amount of debris that is dispersed during the cleaning process. “Our objective has always been to clean effectively while keeping the impact on the crop and the surrounding environment as low as possible,” Dany explains. “By using only water and specially developed brushes, growers can often avoid the need for algae-control chemicals altogether.”
The same principle formed the basis for the development of the Greeny PRO, a compact battery-powered machine for cleaning nursery tables. As hygiene standards continue to gain importance throughout ornamental and young plant production, the demand for efficient table cleaning has increased. Rather than developing an entirely new cleaning concept, Terrazza MC adapted its existing brush technology to a different application. “We listened to growers who wanted a practical machine that could easily be integrated into their daily work,” says Dany. “The result is a solution that combines ease of use with an ecological cleaning method.”

Next to the Greeny PRO, Terrazza MC also introduced an XL-version with an extendable handle, allowing the machine to be made longer.
For Terrazza MC, innovation is closely linked to everyday practice. Product development is largely based on feedback from growers, with the aim of making routine maintenance less labour-intensive while supporting more sustainable production systems.
“Technology should solve practical challenges,” Dany concludes. “If we can help growers reduce labour, save water and eliminate chemicals at the same time, then we are contributing to a more resilient horticultural sector.”
Visitors who would like to learn more about the Geotex PRO and Greeny PRO can meet the Terrazza MC team during Cultivate’26 in Ohio, where the company will be present at the booth of A.M.A. Horticulture, number 2803.
