Effects of different manure fertilizers on the growth and yield of chrysanthemum

Chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiflora Tzvelev) is a high-value floricultural crop widely used as a cut flower, ornamental plant, decorative element, and for formal events. Improving chrysanthemum production requires proper fertilization management, particularly through the use of organic fertilizers that can enhance the physical, chemical, and biological properties of the soil.

This study aimed to determine the effects of manure type and application rate on the growth and yield of chrysanthemum. The experiment was conducted in the greenhouse of the Agro Pudak Lestari Farm Ornamental Plant Farmers’ Group, Pancasari Village, Sukasada Subdistrict, Buleleng Regency, Bali, from December 2025 to April 2026. The experiment was arranged in a nested design using a Randomized Block Design (RBD). The factors tested consisted of manure types, namely chicken manure (Pa), goat manure (Pk), and pig manure (Pb), and manure application rates of 5 t ha?¹ (D1), 10 t ha?¹ (D2), and 15 t ha?¹ (D3). Each treatment was replicated three times, resulting in 27 experimental units. The observed variables included maximum plant height, maximum number of leaves, maximum stem diameter, days to first flowering, number of flowers, stem length, stem weight, fresh marketable weight, and flower diameter. The results showed that manure type significantly affected (P < 0.05) only the maximum number of leaves, whereas manure application rate had a highly significant effect (P < 0.01) on days to first flowering but did not significantly affect the other growth and yield variables.

The goat manure treatment at an application rate of 10 t ha?¹ (PkD2) tended to produce the best results, particularly in terms of fresh marketable weight (44.00 g); therefore, it can be recommended for chrysanthemum cultivation.
