Biotechnology, hydroponics, and branding take center stage at Misiones floriculture event

With strong attendance, the event took place on Thursday, April 30, at the Community Hall in Garuhapé, cementing its role as a key forum for technical updates and networking within the floriculture sector in Misiones. The opening was attended by the mayors of Garuhapé and Puerto Rico, along with representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Production and the Ministry of Family Farming, marking the start of an intensive training agenda.

During the morning session, institutions such as Biofábrica Misiones presented advances in the production of ornamental seedlings using biotechnology, while specialists from CITECH-Eldorado addressed new hydroponic strategies applied to floriculture. AgroRiegos also presented irrigation systems specifically designed for nurseries, introducing key tools to improve production efficiency.

In this context, Facundo López Sartori, head of the provincial agriculture ministry, noted that “floriculture is an activity that has been growing in the province, and these forums help channel that growth by incorporating technology, improving production quality, and strengthening commercialization in each municipality.” Luciana Imbrogno, Undersecretary of Plant Development and Production, stressed that “technical training, combined with opportunities for networking and commercialization, strengthens the sector as a whole, generating more opportunities for growers and improving the quality of products that reach the market.”

Another central theme was brand management and development within family farming, highlighted as a key tool for improving the commercial positioning of nursery growers. The session concluded with a roundtable of growers moderated by agronomist Mayra Gisela Rolhaiser, who noted that “these forums allow us to share concrete experiences, identify common problems, and move toward solutions that come from within the sector itself.”

The afternoon took on a hands-on character with workshops on centerpiece arrangement and orchid care techniques, led by private businesses including Florería Vanesa from Jardín América, Florería Caraguatá from Eldorado, and Vivero Tuly from Garuhapé. At the same time, the Faculty of Forest Sciences at UNaM ran a workshop on substrate preparation, providing technical tools to improve production quality.

Alongside the training sessions, plants were on display and for sale throughout the day, giving nursery growers the opportunity to sell directly to the public and strengthen their local economic circuit. The event was supported by the MISIOFLOR Cooperative, INTA, and the Municipality of Garuhapé, reinforcing collaboration between the public, private, and cooperative sectors. In this way, “Vive Flor” is establishing itself as a reference point for the Misiones floriculture sector, promoting innovation, knowledge exchange, and the growth of an activity that diversifies production and strengthens regional economies.
