Mithun Nath, a resident of Brajendranagar in Sabroom of South tripura district, has become self-reliant through the cultivation of exotic Gerbera flowers. With government assistance, the farmer has ventured into modern floriculture and is now seeing promising returns from the initiative.
The grower started Gerbera cultivation under the “Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture” project for 2024-25. A modern flower cultivation infrastructure has been developed on nearly 200 square metres of land, where around 1,200 Gerbera saplings have been planted.
The total cost of the project stood at Rs 3,99,281. Financial assistance was provided by the state government’s Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, while the infrastructure work was executed by Bangalore-based Florence Flora Marketing agency. The flower garden was completed on November 20, last eyar.
Speaking about the initiative, Nath said flower production has already begun and the blooms have been marketed several times according to demand. He expressed optimism over the growing response from the market.
