Flower bulb sector shines during annual Dutch flower parade

It was bustling with activity in Voorhout, The Netherlands, along the route of the 79th edition of the Bloemencorso Bollenstreek last Saturday. Crowds of visitors arrived by train while local residents lined the streets in anticipation. Although spectators often have to wait for the parade to pass, the atmosphere remained lively throughout the day.

Ahead of the main parade, a children’s procession passed by, featuring creatively decorated bicycles and small vehicles. This traditional prelude added to the festive mood and highlighted the community involvement that characterizes the event.

With over one million visitors and a 42-kilometer route, the Bloemencorso Bollenstreek is the largest one-day spring celebration in the Netherlands. In 2021, it was officially added to the Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Netherlands, underlining its cultural significance and long-standing tradition.

A total of 15 large floral floats formed the core of the parade, accompanied by numerous decorated vehicles. Sustainability played a visible role this year, including a biobased float and signage made from tulip waste.

One particularly eye-catching entry was a Tesla Cybertruck presented by De Vroomen, featuring a Sesame Street-themed floral display.

The top prize for best float was awarded to “Insecte Mécanique,” created by the KAVB. The float stood out for its intricate design and moving elements, according to the jury.

Second place went to “Once upon a time…,” while Hobaho secured third place with “On the right track.”
