Flowers of Colombia celebrates America’s 250th anniversary

As the United States begins commemorating the 250th anniversary of its independence, Flowers of Colombia joined the celebration as part of the official Independence Day reception hosted by the U.S. Embassy in Colombia on June 25th. More than a formal presence, the participation reflected a longstanding partnership in which Colombian floriculture has become one of the strongest symbols of the relationship between both nations.

For nearly six decades, Colombian flowers have accompanied some of the most meaningful moments in the lives of American families from Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day to Memorial Day and now the America250 commemoration. Today, the United States remains Colombia’s most important flower market, receiving 79% of the country’s flower exports. Colombia also supplies 59% of all flowers imported into the U.S. and approximately 80% of imported bouquets, making it the leading international supplier to the American floral market.

The relationship between Colombia and the United States has flourished through decades of trust, shared values and mutually beneficial trade. Flowers have become part of that story, accompanying millions of Americans during life’s most meaningful moments while creating opportunities for thousands of families in both countries.

The main floral design created by Flowers of Colombia for the celebration was conceived as a tribute to this enduring partnership. Its centerpiece featured a large-scale floral installation depicting the flags of United States and Colombia, crafted entirely with Colombian flowers. The installation symbolized how floriculture has strengthened the ties between both countries through trade, cooperation and people-to-people connections.

Beyond its symbolic value, the event underscored the strategic contribution of Colombian floriculture to the bilateral relationship between Colombia and the United States. Its impact is far beyond trade. The industry generates more than 240,000 formal jobs in Colombia and supports an estimated 225,000 jobs across the United States through transportation, logistics, wholesale distribution, retail, supermarkets, and the events industry. This integrated value chain demonstrates how floral trade creates shared economic opportunities and reinforces the strong partnership between the two countries.
