J&A Flowers expands again with new 3.1 hectare chrysanthemum greenhouse

Just two years after its previous expansion, J&A Flowers is taking another major step forward. The Dutch family business is building an additional 3.1 hectares of modern chrysanthemum greenhouse on Scheeweg in De Lier, in the Westland region of the Netherlands, directly adjoining its existing facilities. The expansion will give J&A Flowers extra capacity to meet growing demand for its chrysanthemums, while allowing further investment in quality, efficiency, and innovation.

The new greenhouse will feature modern cultivation technology, including LED lighting, an energy screen, an air treatment system, and a fogging system. Together, these systems are designed to create an optimal growing climate and support efficient, future-oriented operations.

“It’s great to see that, two years after our previous expansion, we’re already able to take this next step,” says Remco van Ruyven. “Demand for our chrysanthemums keeps growing, and this extra space allows us to expand our production further. At the same time, the new greenhouse gives us room to invest fully in new varieties.”

A major step for the entrepreneurs
Building a new greenhouse involves more than simply adding growing space. It requires a significant investment from the growers, not only financially but also in time, energy, and attention. Daily cultivation has to continue throughout construction, while important decisions are being made about technology, layout, varieties, and the company’s future direction.

For J&A Flowers, the project also confirms its ambition to keep growing and investing in the future. Since the new greenhouse connects directly to the existing structures, it represents a logical next step in the company’s development. Cooperation with the various parties involved went smoothly throughout the project. Because the new greenhouse is essentially a copy of the one built in 2024, the company could draw on experience gained during that earlier project.

That experience, combined with strong cooperation and mutual trust among the parties involved, helped this expansion get off the ground smoothly as well. The result is not just a new greenhouse, but a future-proof expansion in which technology, cultivation, and entrepreneurship come together.

Two new varieties in the new greenhouse
The expansion creates additional space not only for Magnum and Magnum Yellow, both bred by Deliflor, but also for two other varieties: Maracuja and Airborne, both from Dekker Chrysanten. Maracuja is already a well-established name in the market and will be scaled up further at J&A Flowers. Airborne, on the other hand, is completely new and marks a genuine addition to J&A Flowers’ assortment.
