New generation of pollen-free Spathiphyllum introduced

During FlowerTrials, KP Holland introduced a new addition in the Spathiphyllum assortment: Cupido Polzero. A new series that combines the well-known air-purifying qualities of Spathiphyllum with a unique characteristic: flowers that produce and release no pollen. Innovative, distinctive, exclusive and protected by patent, Cupido Polzero establishes a unique position in the market. Over the coming years, many more varieties from the KP Holland breeding programme will be added to this innovative series.

With Cupido Polzero, KP Holland takes the next step towards more sustainable cultivation and healthier living environments. The concept responds to the growing demand for plants that contribute to health, sustainability and greener living. Cupido Polzero retains all the trusted qualities of Spathiphyllum, including vigorous growth, elegant white flowers and excellent air-purifying properties, while adding a unique characteristic: flowers that produce and release no pollen. The result is a cleaner plant, both during cultivation and in the consumer’s home. As the flowers mature, they gradually change from white to green, extending their ornamental value.

The first varieties are now available to growers and trading partners through the KP Holland Breeding Sales assortment, laying the foundation for the future introduction of pollen-free Spathiphyllum varieties in the flowering plant assortment.

Reduced thrips pressure
Cupido Polzero offers clear benefits for growers. Because the flowers produce no pollen, the plants are significantly less attractive to Western flower thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis). As a result, thrips pressure can be reduced by up to 50%, leading to lower crop protection requirements, a cleaner growing environment, lower production costs and a more sustainable cultivation process. In addition, the crop is strong and robust, featuring firm, glossy foliage, large pure white flowers and excellent shelf life, even under warm summer conditions.

Allergy-friendly
Cupido Polzero also offers exciting prospects for consumers. It retains the well-known air-purifying qualities of Spathiphyllum, while the absence of pollen results in a cleaner plant that is also more allergy-friendly. In addition, the reduced need for crop protection during cultivation contributes to a cleaner end product. This makes the new generation of Spathiphyllum a breath of fresh air, in the most literal sense. Varieties with these unique characteristics will also become available in the flowering plant assortment in the future. Cupido Polzero will therefore offer consumers not only a stylish houseplant, but also a conscious choice for a healthier and greener living environment.
